There were more professionals in South Perth in 2021 than any other occupation.

This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating South Perth's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in South Perth in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (8,598 people or 37.3%)
  • Managers (3,487 people or 15.1%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (2,699 people or 11.7%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 14,784 people in total or 64.2% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Mining and Pastoral Region employed 15.1% in Professionals; 10.8% in Managers; and 10.5% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of South Perth and Mining and Pastoral Region were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (37.3% compared to 15.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (8.5% compared to 20.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (3.1% compared to 14.1%)
