Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Southern River in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,452 people or 13.8%)
  • Retail Trade (2,537 people or 10.1%)
  • Construction (2,069 people or 8.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 8,058 people in total or 32.2% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Mount Lawley employed 14.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.5% in Retail Trade; and 7.1% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Southern River and Mount Lawley were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (6.6% compared to 3.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (6.7% compared to 3.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (10.1% compared to 8.5%)
