More Mandurah residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Mandurah's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Mandurah in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,546 people or 14.0%)
  • Retail Trade (2,043 people or 11.2%)
  • Mining (1,784 people or 9.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 6,373 people in total or 35.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Mount Lawley employed 14.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.5% in Retail Trade; and 5.3% in Mining.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Mandurah and Mount Lawley were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (9.8% compared to 5.3%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (7.3% compared to 3.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (11.2% compared to 8.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (3.5% compared to 11.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Mandurah increased by 2,746 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Mandurah were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+626 persons)
  • Mining (+476 persons)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+265 persons)
  • Manufacturing (+250 persons)
