Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Bassendean in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (2,889 people or 13.7%)
- Retail Trade (2,025 people or 9.6%)
- Construction (1,861 people or 8.9%)
In combination, these three industries employed 6,775 people in total or 32.2% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Mount Lawley employed 14.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.5% in Retail Trade; and 7.1% in Construction.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Bassendean and Mount Lawley were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (6.2% compared to 3.5%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.6% compared to 3.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (8.9% compared to 7.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.5% compared to 11.8%)

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Bassendean were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+541 persons)
- Mining (+321 persons)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+303 persons)
- Education and Training (+180 persons)
