Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Geraldton in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,745 people or 15.5%)
  • Retail Trade (1,888 people or 10.6%)
  • Education and Training (1,846 people or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 6,479 people in total or 36.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Mount Lawley employed 14.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.5% in Retail Trade; and 9.0% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Geraldton and Mount Lawley were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (3.8% compared to 0.3%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (6.4% compared to 3.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (3.7% compared to 11.8%)
