More South Perth female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

South Perth's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in South Perth in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,539 females or 22.5%)
  • Education and Training (1,727 females or 15.3%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,222 females or 10.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 5,488 females in total or 48.6% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Moore employed 14.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 14.4% in Education and Training; and 3.6% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of South Perth and Moore were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (22.5% compared to 14.8%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (10.8% compared to 3.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.4% compared to 15.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in transport, postal and warehousing (1.6% compared to 3.5%)

The number of employed females in South Perth increased by 1,379 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in South Perth were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+557 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+302 females)
  • Education and Training (+173 females)
  • Mining (+148 females)
