More Kwinana residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Kwinana in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,331 people or 14.0%)
  • Construction (2,295 people or 9.7%)
  • Retail Trade (2,170 people or 9.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,796 people in total or 32.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Regional WA employed 11.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.5% in Construction; and 8.3% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Kwinana and Regional WA were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.7% compared to 3.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (7.9% compared to 5.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.0% compared to 9.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in mining (6.5% compared to 11.3%)

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,034 persons)
  • Mining (+648 persons)
  • Education and Training (+357 persons)
  • Manufacturing (+319 persons)
