Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Cottesloe in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (3,795 people or 17.5%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (3,215 people or 14.9%)
- Education and Training (2,192 people or 10.1%)
In combination, these three industries employed 9,202 people in total or 42.5% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Regional WA employed 11.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 3.0% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 8.6% in Education and Training.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Cottesloe and Regional WA were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (14.9% compared to 3.0%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (17.5% compared to 11.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.1% compared to 9.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in mining (7.0% compared to 11.3%)

The number of employed people in Cottesloe increased by 2,896 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Cottesloe were for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+788 persons)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+603 persons)
- Mining (+489 persons)
- Accommodation and Food Services (+152 persons)
