More Bateman female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Bateman in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,523 females or 23.4%)
  • Education and Training (1,683 females or 15.6%)
  • Retail Trade (1,049 females or 9.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 5,255 females in total or 48.7% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional WA employed 20.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 14.5% in Education and Training; and 11.3% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Bateman and Regional WA were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (9.6% compared to 3.4%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (23.4% compared to 20.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.4% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (6.4% compared to 9.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Bateman increased by 1,109 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Bateman were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+544 females)
  • Mining (+147 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+133 females)
  • Education and Training (+90 females)
