Individual Income statistics are an indicator of socio-economic status. With other data sources, such as Household Income, Qualifications and Occupation, they help tell the story of the economic opportunities and socio-economic status of South West Region. The amount of income an individual receives is linked to a number of factors including employment status, age (as for instance students and retirees often receive a lower income), qualifications and type of employment.

Dominant groups
Analysis of individual income levels in South West Region in 2021 compared to Bassendean shows that there was a similar proportion of people earning a high income (those earning $2,000 per week or more) as well as a similar proportion of low income people (those earning less than $500 per week).
Overall, 11.1% of the population earned a high income, and 35.2% earned a low income, compared with 10.6% and 34.8% respectively for Bassendean.
The major differences between South West Region's individual incomes and Bassendean's individual incomes were:
- A larger percentage of persons who earned $500 - $649 (8.4% compared to 7.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons who earned $1,250 - $1,499 (5.6% compared to 7.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons who earned Negative Income/ Nil income (8.0% compared to 9.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons who earned $1,000 - $1,249 (8.0% compared to 9.4%)
