Analysis of the household/family types in North Metropolitan Region in 2021 compared to Western Australia shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 32.7% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 9.3% were one-parent families, compared with 30.2% and 10.0% respectively for Western Australia.
There were a similar proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 23.8% compared to 23.8% in Western Australia while the proportion of couples without children was 26.1% compared to 25.4% in Western Australia.
Emerging groups
The number of households in North Metropolitan Region increased by 22,504 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in family/household types in North Metropolitan Region between 2016 and 2021 were:
- Lone person (+10,407 households)
- Couples without children (+6,653 households)
- Couples with children (+6,454 households)
- One parent families (+3,735 households)
