In 2021, the largest age group in Central Wheatbelt was 60 to 64 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 532 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Central Wheatbelt in 2021 compared to Kingsley shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.1% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 23.8% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.7% and 20.8% respectively for Kingsley.

The major differences between the age structure of Central Wheatbelt and Kingsley were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (8.0% compared to 6.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 55 to 59 (7.8% compared to 6.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 35 to 39 (5.7% compared to 7.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 40 to 44 (5.3% compared to 6.6%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Central Wheatbelt's population decreased by 1,102 people (2.9%). This represents an average annual population change of -0.58% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 0 to 4 (-389 persons)
  • 40 to 44 (-350 persons)
  • 45 to 49 (-322 persons)
