Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Swan Hills in 2021 compared to the Metropolitan District shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 22.5% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 11.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.0% and 15.3% respectively for the Metropolitan District.
The major differences between the age structure of Swan Hills and the Metropolitan District were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 5 to 9 (7.9% compared to 6.5%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 10 to 14 (7.8% compared to 6.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (6.8% compared to 5.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (0.6% compared to 1.9%)
Emerging groups
From 2016 to 2021, Swan Hills's population increased by 3,608 people (7.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.52% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 10 to 14 (+532 persons)
- 25 to 29 (-510 persons)
- 35 to 39 (+510 persons)
- 55 to 59 (+490 persons)
