Family blending only applies to couple families with children. Dominant groups
Analysis of the family blending in South Metropolitan Region in 2021 compared to Baldivis shows that there was a lower proportion of step families as well as a lower proportion of blended families. Overall, 12.8% of total couple families with children were step families, and 3.4% were blended families, compared with 19.3% and 6.1% respectively for Baldivis.
There were a similar proportion of other families and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of other families was 0.4% compared to 0.5% in Baldivis while the proportion of intact families was 83.4% compared to 74.2% in Baldivis.
Emerging groups
The number of couple families with children in South Metropolitan Region increased by 9,015 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in family blending in South Metropolitan Region between 2016 and 2021 were:
- Step family (+6,464 couples with children)
- Intact Family (+2,363 couples with children)
- Blended family (+136 couples with children)
- Other couple family (+52 couples with children)
