Division 5's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Division 5's socio-economic status and skill base.

'In the main job held last week, what was the person's occupation?' and 'What are the main tasks that the person himself/herself usually performs in that occupation?'
Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 5 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (1,626 people or 17.6%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (1,553 people or 16.8%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (1,311 people or 14.2%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 4,490 people in total or 48.6% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Kirwan employed 16.7% in Professionals; 17.2% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 14.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
There were no major differences between Division 5 and Kirwan in 2021.
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Division 5 increased by 1,137 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Division 5 were for those employed as:
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+373 persons)
- Professionals (+290 persons)
- Managers (+143 persons)
- Labourers (+93 persons)
