Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Townsville City in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Public Administration and Safety (303 people or 18.0%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (298 people or 17.7%)
  • Education and Training (160 people or 9.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 761 people in total or 45.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Magnetic Island employed 6.6% in Public Administration and Safety; 10.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 8.2% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Townsville City and Magnetic Island were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (18.0% compared to 6.6%)
