More North-West Region residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

North-West Region's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in North-West Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (866 people or 14.6%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (858 people or 14.4%)
  • Education and Training (539 people or 9.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,263 people in total or 38.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Division 5 employed 7.9% in Construction; 17.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.3% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of North-West Region and Division 5 were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (14.6% compared to 7.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (7.8% compared to 11.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (7.6% compared to 10.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (14.4% compared to 17.5%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in North-West Region increased by 718 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in North-West Region were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+267 persons)
  • Construction (+114 persons)
  • Education and Training (+85 persons)
  • Mining (+83 persons)
