Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Townsville in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Public Administration and Safety (7,390 males or 15.7%)
  • Construction (6,796 males or 14.5%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,505 males or 7.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 17,691 males in total or 37.7% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, the Central Business District employed 21.0% in Public Administration and Safety; 8.1% in Construction; and 9.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Townsville and the Central Business District were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (14.5% compared to 8.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (15.7% compared to 21.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (4.5% compared to 7.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (6.2% compared to 8.8%)
