Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Sutherland in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (906 people or 14.1%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (765 people or 11.9%)
- Education and Training (677 people or 10.5%)
In combination, these three industries employed 2,348 people in total or 36.4% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Bangor employed 11.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 12.7% in Education and Training.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Sutherland and Bangor were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (14.1% compared to 11.4%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (11.9% compared to 9.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (7.7% compared to 10.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in education and training (10.5% compared to 12.7%)

The number of employed people in Sutherland increased by 584 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Sutherland were for those employed in:
- Education and Training (+174 persons)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+172 persons)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+155 persons)
- Construction (+64 persons)
