Analysis of the household/family types of children aged 12 to 17 years in Shoalhaven City Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW, shows that there was a lower proportion of children aged 12 to 17 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 63.1% of children aged 12 to 17 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 26.6% were in one-parent families, compared with 66.7% and 25.3% respectively for Regional NSW.
There was a similar proportion of children aged 12 to 17 years in lone person households and a similar proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of children aged 12 to 17 years in lone person households was 0.8% compared to 0.6% in Regional NSW while the proportion of couples without children was 1.1% compared to 1.1% in Regional NSW.
The number of children aged 12 to 17 years in households in Shoalhaven City increased by 695 between 2016 and 2021.
