Dominant groups
In 2021, there were 9,121 separate houses in the area, 4,485 medium density dwellings, and 51 high density dwellings. In addition, there were 1,451 caravans/cabins/houseboats in the area.
Analysis of the types of dwellings in Central Australia in 2021 shows that 57.5% of all dwellings were separate houses; 28.3% were medium density dwellings, and 0.3% were in high density dwellings, compared with 83.7%, 10.6%, and 1.4% in the East Arnhem LGA - Nhulunbuy - Alyangula respectively.
In 2021, a total of 86.4% of the dwellings in Central Australia were occupied on Census night, compared to 83.4% in East Arnhem LGA - Nhulunbuy - Alyangula. The proportion of unoccupied dwellings was 12.5%, which is smaller compared to that found in East Arnhem LGA - Nhulunbuy - Alyangula (15.4%).
