Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Perth in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2,414 people or 14.5%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (2,162 people or 12.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,080 people or 12.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 6,656 people in total or 39.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Perth employed 7.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 6.5% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 14.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Perth and Greater Perth were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (14.5% compared to 7.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (12.9% compared to 6.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (9.2% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (4.8% compared to 8.9%)

The number of employed people in City of Perth increased by 10,107 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2006 and 2021 in the City of Perth were for those employed in:

  • Accommodation and Food Services (+1,442 persons)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,403 persons)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+1,392 persons)
  • Mining (+1,170 persons)
