Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in South Penrith in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (734 people or 13.2%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (731 people or 13.1%)
  • Retail Trade (542 people or 9.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,007 people in total or 36.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 8.2% in Construction; 13.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 8.8% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of South Penrith and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (13.2% compared to 8.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in public administration and safety (7.8% compared to 5.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (4.1% compared to 10.9%)
