Hours Worked statistics show the distribution of employment hours for females and males in the City of Parramatta's employed population. It relates to the number of hours of paid employment across all jobs in the week prior to Census day.

Hours worked relates to the prevalence of particular types of jobs and particular industries. Some industries are more likely to be part-time. Australia-wide, females are more likely than males to work part-time (<35 hours per week). Males are more likely to work full time and longer hours in paid employment.

The extent to which this varies in the City of Parramatta can show key differences between sexes and changes in traditional gender roles, as well as the availability of different types of employment.

Please note: Many areas of Australia were in lockdown for the 2021 Census and many people were not working but supported by JobKeeper. For this reason the number of people with zero hours worked in the week prior to Census is likely to have increased between 2016 and 2021, though this varies considerably by place. Use time comparison with caution

Hours Worked data should be looked at in conjunction with Employment Status and Occupation.
