Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Westmead in 2021 compared to Dundas Valley shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, and a larger proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 20.5% of the population used English only, and 70.9% used a non-English language, compared with 42.1% and 51.8% respectively for Dundas Valley.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Westmead was Hindi, with 10.8% of the population, or 895 people using this language at home.

The major differences between the languages used at home for the population of Westmead and Dundas Valley in 2021 were:

  • A larger percentage using Hindi at home (10.8% compared to 0.7%)
  • A larger percentage using Gujarati at home (7.6% compared to 0.2%)
