Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in the City of Parramatta in 2021 compared to New South Wales shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 42.5% of people aged 18 to 24 years spoke English only, and 51.6% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 67.8% and 26.3% respectively for New South Wales.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 18 to 24 years in the City of Parramatta was Mandarin, with 8.9% of the population, or 1,910 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 18 to 24 years of the City of Parramatta and New South Wales in 2021 were:
