There were more male technicians and trades workers in Northern Tasmania Region in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Northern Tasmania Region in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Technicians and Trades Workers (7,695 males or 22.1%)
  • Managers (5,637 males or 16.2%)
  • Labourers (4,886 males or 14.0%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 18,218 males in total or 52.4% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, Dorset Council area employed 20.5% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 24.8% in Managers; and 20.4% in Labourers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Northern Tasmania Region and Dorset Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (13.7% compared to 4.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Managers (16.2% compared to 24.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Labourers (14.0% compared to 20.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (13.6% compared to 17.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Northern Tasmania Region increased by 4,698 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Northern Tasmania Region were for those employed as:

  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+1,044 males)
  • Labourers (+757 males)
  • Managers (+671 males)
  • Machinery Operators And Drivers (+625 males)
