Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Northern Tasmania Region in 2021 compared to Northern Midlands Council area shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 23.1% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.8% were one-parent families, compared with 24.0% and 9.9% respectively for Northern Midlands Council area.

There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 28.7% compared to 27.3% in Northern Midlands Council area while the proportion of couples without children was 28.8% compared to 31.6% in Northern Midlands Council area.

The number of households in Northern Tasmania Region increased by 17,372 between 1991 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in Northern Tasmania Region between 1991 and 2021 were:
