Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Northern Rivers Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (11,283 males or 17.4%)
  • Retail Trade (5,586 males or 8.6%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (5,317 males or 8.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 22,186 males in total or 34.3% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Clarence Valley employed 15.9% in Construction; 8.5% in Retail Trade; and 7.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Northern Rivers Region and Clarence Valley were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.0% compared to 3.0%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (17.4% compared to 15.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (6.0% compared to 9.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (6.5% compared to 8.7%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Northern Rivers Region increased by 7,075 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Northern Rivers Region were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+2,113 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,156 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+750 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+731 males)
