Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Growth LGAs in NSW in 2021 compared to the Shire of Cardinia shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a similar proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 22.3% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 12.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 22.8% and 12.3% respectively for the Shire of Cardinia .

The major differences between the age structure of Growth LGAs in NSW and the Shire of Cardinia were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 40 to 44 (7.3% compared to 6.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (6.5% compared to 6.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (7.4% compared to 8.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (6.7% compared to 7.3%)

From 2006 to 2021, Growth LGAs in NSW's population increased by 418,250 people (43.2%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.42% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 35 to 39 (+41,337 persons)
  • 30 to 34 (+30,259 persons)
  • 65 to 69 (+30,215 persons)
  • 60 to 64 (+29,699 persons)
