Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of males in the National Growth Areas Alliance compared to South Australia shows that there was a similar proportion of males who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 6.5% of the male population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 6.3% for South Australia.

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance in the City of Hume and South Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (37.2% compared to 22.8%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (27.9% compared to 14.3%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 85 and over (53.5% compared to 42.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (20.7% compared to 10.5%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the male age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Hume were in the age groups:
