Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Shire of Murray in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Mining (967 people or 13.1%)
- Manufacturing (788 people or 10.7%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (753 people or 10.2%)
In combination, these three industries employed 2,508 people in total or 34.1% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Peel Region employed 11.7% in Mining; 8.2% in Manufacturing; and 12.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Shire of Murray and Peel Region were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (10.7% compared to 8.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (3.5% compared to 1.6%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (13.1% compared to 11.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (10.2% compared to 12.7%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Shire of Murray increased by 2,642 between 2006 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2006 and 2021 in the Shire of Murray were for those employed in:
- Mining (+657 persons)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+411 persons)
- Education and Training (+245 persons)
- Construction (+164 persons)
