Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Shire of Murray in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Mining (967 people or 13.1%)
  • Manufacturing (788 people or 10.7%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (753 people or 10.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,508 people in total or 34.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Peel Region employed 11.7% in Mining; 8.2% in Manufacturing; and 12.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Shire of Murray and Peel Region were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (10.7% compared to 8.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (3.5% compared to 1.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (13.1% compared to 11.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (10.2% compared to 12.7%)
