Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Essendon in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (816 males or 13.6%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (714 males or 11.9%)
  • Retail Trade (455 males or 7.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,985 males in total or 33.1% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Moonee Ponds (N) employed 12.5% in Construction; 14.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 7.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Essendon and Moonee Ponds (N) were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (13.6% compared to 12.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (11.9% compared to 14.8%)
