Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Essendon in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,573 people or 13.2%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,336 people or 11.2%)
  • Education and Training (1,151 people or 9.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 4,060 people in total or 34.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Moonee Ponds (N) employed 13.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 10.0% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Essendon and Moonee Ponds (N) were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (8.4% compared to 7.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (11.2% compared to 13.7%)
