More Ringwood residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2016.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ringwood in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (1,186 people or 14.0%)
- Retail Trade (917 people or 10.8%)
- Education and Training (791 people or 9.3%)
In combination, these three industries employed 2,894 people in total or 34.0% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre employed 15.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.6% in Retail Trade; and 7.1% in Education and Training.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ringwood and Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (9.3% compared to 7.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (5.8% compared to 8.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (10.8% compared to 12.6%)
