Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of the City of Maribyrnong in 2021 compared to East Precinct shows that there was a larger proportion of people who used English only, and a similar proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 56.6% of the population used English only, and 38.1% used a non-English language, compared with 54.5% and 37.6% respectively for East Precinct.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in the City of Maribyrnong was Vietnamese, with 11.7% of the population, or 9,928 people using this language at home.

The major difference between the languages used at home for the population of the City of Maribyrnong and East Precinct in 2021 was:

  • A smaller percentage using Nepali at home (0.6% compared to 1.7%)
