Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 65 years or more in Manningham City Council in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 53.4% of people aged 65 years or more spoke English only, and 42.7% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 64.0% and 30.8% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 65 years or more in Manningham City Council was Greek, with 9.1% of the population, or 2,521 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 65 years or more of the City of Manningham and Greater Melbourne in 2021 were:
