The share of Division 7's population attending educational institutions reflects the age structure of the population, as it is influenced by the number of children attending school; proximity to tertiary education, which can mean young adults leaving home to be nearer to educational facilities and; the degree to which people are seeking out educational opportunities in adulthood, especially in their late teens and early twenties.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the share of the population attending educational institutions in Division 7 in 2021 compared to New Beith and District shows that there was a lower proportion attending primary school, a lower proportion attending secondary school, and a similar proportion engaged in tertiary level education.

Overall, 9.2% of the population were attending primary school, 7.0% of the population were attending secondary institutions, and 5.4% were learning at a tertiary level, compared with 12.4%, 10.0% and 5.4% respectively for New Beith and District.

The major differences between the share of the population attending learning institutions in Division 7 and New Beith and District were:

  • A larger percentage of persons not attending (69.4% compared to 66.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons attending a primary school (any type) (9.2% compared to 12.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons attending a secondary school (any type) (7.0% compared to 10.0%)

  • Secondary school (+201 persons)
  • TAFE/Vocational (+175 persons)
  • Secondary - Government (+174 persons)
  • University (+115 persons)
