Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Launceston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (136 males or 15.8%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (94 males or 10.9%)
  • Retail Trade (79 males or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 309 males in total or 35.8% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, the City of Ballarat employed 8.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 6.5% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 8.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Launceston and the City of Ballarat were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (15.8% compared to 8.7%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (10.9% compared to 6.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (8.8% compared to 16.8%)
