Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Launceston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (383 people or 22.7%)
- Accommodation and Food Services (195 people or 11.6%)
- Retail Trade (166 people or 9.9%)
In combination, these three industries employed 744 people in total or 44.2% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Regional TAS employed 16.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.5% in Accommodation and Food Services; and 9.8% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Launceston and Regional TAS were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (22.7% compared to 16.0%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (11.6% compared to 7.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.7% compared to 8.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (5.3% compared to 8.6%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Launceston increased by 226 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest change in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Launceston was for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+78 persons)
