Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Kingston in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (11,000 people or 13.5%)
  • Construction (8,106 people or 10.0%)
  • Retail Trade (7,811 people or 9.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 26,917 people in total or 33.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 13.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.3% in Construction; and 9.4% in Retail Trade.

The major difference between the jobs held by the population of the City of Kingston and Greater Melbourne was:

  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (3.6% compared to 4.9%)
