There were more male professionals in Tempe in 2021 than any other occupation.

Tempe's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Tempe's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Tempe in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (277 males or 29.6%)
  • Managers (178 males or 19.0%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (127 males or 13.6%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 582 males in total or 62.2% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, Marrickville Ward employed 35.1% in Professionals; 17.4% in Managers; and 14.0% in Technicians and Trades Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Tempe and Marrickville Ward were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (7.5% compared to 5.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Managers (19.0% compared to 17.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Labourers (7.8% compared to 6.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Professionals (29.6% compared to 35.1%)
