Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Inner West Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (16,126 people or 15.8%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (12,780 people or 12.5%)
  • Education and Training (10,810 people or 10.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 39,716 people in total or 38.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 10.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 13.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 8.5% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Inner West Council area and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (15.8% compared to 10.9%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in information media and telecommunications (4.8% compared to 2.4%)
