More NSROC Region male residents worked in professional, scientific and technical services than any other industry in 2021.

NSROC Region's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in NSROC Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (30,557 males or 18.8%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (19,128 males or 11.8%)
  • Construction (13,759 males or 8.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 63,444 males in total or 39.0% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Dural employed 13.4% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 7.8% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 14.2% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of NSROC Region and Dural were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (18.8% compared to 13.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in financial and insurance services (11.8% compared to 7.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (8.5% compared to 14.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in wholesale trade (4.1% compared to 6.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in NSROC Region increased by 25,062 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2006 and 2021 in NSROC Region were for those employed in:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+7,194 males)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+4,654 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+4,425 males)
  • Construction (+3,586 males)
