Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Gold Coast City in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (29,520 males or 19.3%)
  • Retail Trade (13,353 males or 8.7%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (12,441 males or 8.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 55,314 males in total or 36.2% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Clear Island Waters employed 13.6% in Construction; 9.6% in Retail Trade; and 8.2% in Accommodation and Food Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Gold Coast City and Clear Island Waters were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (19.3% compared to 13.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (6.8% compared to 10.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.7% compared to 9.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in rental, hiring and real estate services (2.5% compared to 4.6%)

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Gold Coast City were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+3,564 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+3,277 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+1,967 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+1,124 males)
