Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Merrimac in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (317 males or 18.0%)
  • Retail Trade (174 males or 9.9%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (156 males or 8.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 647 males in total or 36.8% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Runaway Bay employed 18.4% in Construction; 9.1% in Retail Trade; and 6.3% in Accommodation and Food Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Merrimac and Runaway Bay were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (8.9% compared to 6.3%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in education and training (5.5% compared to 4.3%)
