More Division 08 male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

Division 08's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Division 08 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (1,741 males or 17.7%)
  • Retail Trade (929 males or 9.4%)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (798 males or 8.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 3,468 males in total or 35.3% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Palm Beach employed 23.8% in Construction; 7.4% in Retail Trade; and 7.1% in Accommodation and Food Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Division 08 and Palm Beach were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in retail trade (9.4% compared to 7.4%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.6% compared to 4.0%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in other services (3.7% compared to 2.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (17.7% compared to 23.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Division 08 increased by 628 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 08 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+211 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+124 males)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+60 males)
  • Education and Training (+55 males)
