More Division 09 male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

Division 09's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Division 09 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (2,358 males or 21.9%)
  • Retail Trade (901 males or 8.4%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (768 males or 7.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 4,027 males in total or 37.3% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Guanaba - Springbrook employed 23.9% in Construction; 5.1% in Retail Trade; and 6.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Division 09 and Guanaba - Springbrook were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in retail trade (8.4% compared to 5.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in education and training (5.6% compared to 4.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.8% compared to 3.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (21.9% compared to 23.9%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Division 09 increased by 1,724 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Division 09 were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+554 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+334 males)
  • Manufacturing (-204 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+186 males)
