In 2021, the largest age group in Division 01 was 30 to 34 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 30 to 34 year olds, increasing by 1,081 people.

Five year age groups present a classic age profile of the population. Each age group covers exactly five years, which enables direct comparison between each group.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Division 01 in 2021 compared to Gold Coast City shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 24.5% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 9.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.6% and 18.4% respectively for Gold Coast City.

The major differences between the female age structure of Division 01 and Gold Coast City were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 0 to 4 (8.7% compared to 5.0%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 5 to 9 (8.2% compared to 5.7%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 30 to 34 (9.3% compared to 7.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (2.9% compared to 5.0%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Division 01's female population increased by 9,919 people (57.2%). This represents an average annual population change of 9.47% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 30 to 34 (+1,081 females)
  • 25 to 29 (+911 females)
  • 35 to 39 (+873 females)
  • 10 to 14 (+793 females)
