In 2021, the largest age group in Division 03 was 5 to 9 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 50 to 54 year olds, increasing by 1,123 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Division 03 in 2021 compared to Regional Queensland shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 25.2% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 8.2% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.0% and 19.8% respectively for Regional Queensland.

The major differences between the age structure of Division 03 and Regional Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 5 to 9 (8.9% compared to 6.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (2.9% compared to 6.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (2.5% compared to 5.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (3.7% compared to 6.6%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Division 03's population increased by 10,282 people (24.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 4.45% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 50 to 54 (+1,123 persons)
  • 10 to 14 (+1,061 persons)
  • 15 to 19 (+808 persons)
  • 45 to 49 (+799 persons)
